Committees

Committees provide our Affiliate the ability to function as a sustainable organization.  Our success depends on volunteers not only at the build site, but also as volunteers who help us identify community sponsors, locate families and communities in need and help spread our mission.  Many people in this area need our help.  It could be your neighbor, co-worker or even your best friend! Read on to see how your skills can help us fulfill Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Building 

Members plan and implement the construction projects of the organization. Tasks include soliciting professional help and donations of building materials, coordinating volunteers and supervising construction. Do you have construction, electrical, plumbing, architectural or landscaping experience?

Church Relations 

Members develop and cultivate relationships with congregations and faith groups to create and sustain partnerships that provide resources for Habitat. Are you Active in a church or youth group? Do you have an interest in cultivating new relationships for Habitat?

Family Selection / Family Support 

This committee reviews selection criteria and application forms. They screen applications, interview applicants and recommend applicants who meet our guidelines to the Board of Trustees for approval as prospective homeowners.  Family Support provides homeowners with a support system including training and guidance in the area of financial planning and home ownership. Are you a whiz at budgeting? Can you provide home ownership counseling?.

Fundraising 

This committee coordinates the raising of funds needed to conduct the business of the corporation.  Tasks include fundraising campaigns; grant proposal writing, planning special events.  Do you love talking to people? Are you organized? Are you outgoing?

Nominating 

Individuals interested in becoming a member of the Board are invited to submit a letter to the Nominating Committee.

Public Relations 

Members educate the public regarding the mission and purposes of Habitat, the need for better and more affordable housing in Hudson County.  A periodic newsletter is used to keep the community aware of projects and development. Do you like public speaking?  Any experience with news media, publishing or web development?  Have a passion about the vision of Habitat for Humanity?

Site Selection 

Members target the area of the community in which the projects of the organization shall be developed, investigating and researching the availability of property, and recommending property to the Board of Trustees for acquisitions. Do you know an area in need? Do you have connections with land owners, property owners or knowledge of real estate?

Technology 

This committee maintains our online and social media presence in addition to communicating with our constituents.

Volunteer 

Recruits and coordinates volunteers to assist other Committees in all projects for the Affiliate. They identify, recruit, orient, utilize, retain and recognize volunteers in order to carry out the ministry of Habitat for Humanity.  Are you an experienced Volunteer that can share ideas? Are you a people-person and would you work well in a group?
